Your Engagement
Session Guide

Everything you need to know to arrive completely at ease — and leave with images that prove it.

Before the Wedding Day

Two hours that change
everything about the day.

Your engagement session does two things. It gives you images that are entirely yours — made before the noise of wedding planning takes over. And it puts you in front of our cameras once before it matters most, so that on your wedding morning, none of this is unfamiliar.

"By the time your wedding morning arrives, you'll already know how this feels."

Most couples feel self-conscious at first. That's expected. About twenty minutes in, something shifts — you stop managing yourself and start simply being together. That's the session. That's what we're after.

Approximately 90 minutes. One or two Gulf Coast locations. Two outfit changes. Golden hour light. You'll leave feeling better about the whole thing than you expected — we hear that every time.

When We Shoot

The Light Is Non-Negotiable

Golden Hour — 2 hours before sunset

Every evening along the Gulf Coast, there's a two-hour window before the sun drops below the horizon. Warm, directional light — the kind that does something extraordinary to skin tones, to the emerald water, to live oaks draped in Spanish moss. We build every session around that window. The timeline exists to protect it.

Morning sessions are also available for couples who prefer the quiet of early light, particularly at the beach before the crowds arrive. Both are beautiful. What matters is that we're intentional about it.

Being on time is one of the most meaningful things you can do for your session. A 20-minute delay isn't just 20 minutes — it can mean the difference between that luminous, warm light and the flat blue hour that follows. We protect your timeline, and we ask that you protect it alongside us.

Time of Year

The Gulf Coast
Through the Seasons

The Gulf Coast is beautiful year-round, and every season has its own character. Here's what to expect — and what to wear — for each.

Dec — Feb

Winter

Winter sessions on the Gulf Coast are underrated. The beaches are quiet, the light is soft and low, and with golden hour arriving as early as 3 PM, you can build an entire evening around your session without disrupting a workday. Layer looks — a cozy jacket over a dress, textured fabrics — photograph beautifully in cooler months.

Sessions as early as 3:00 PM · Quiet beaches

Apr — May

Spring

April and May are stunning on the Gulf Coast. Wildflowers bloom along the roadsides, temperatures are mild and pleasant, and the light is long and golden well into the evening. Spring sessions carry a particular kind of freshness — everything feels like it's just beginning, which is exactly right for an engagement.

Wildflowers · Comfortable temps · Long golden hours

Jun — Aug

Summer

Summer sessions start later — typically 6 or 7 PM — so the heat has broken and the light is at its most saturated. Bring extra makeup, because the Gulf Coast in July doesn't apologize. But the tradeoff is a sky that goes peach and amber and rose in ways that make every image look like it was painted. It's worth it.

Start at 6–7 PM · Touch-up kit essential · Extraordinary light

Oct — Nov

Fall

Our favorite. October and November bring perfect weather, warm tones, and a quality of light that feels like it was made for photography. The beaches are never too crowded, the evenings are comfortable, and the colors — both in the landscape and in the sky — are just right. If you're trying to choose a season, this is our answer.

Months Minimum

Before Your
Save the Dates

Your engagement images are often the first glimpse your guests get of you as a couple — printed on save-the-dates and shared across social media. To give us enough time to deliver a beautifully edited gallery before those announcements go out, we ask that you schedule your session at least two months before your save-the-date mailing date. Galleries are typically delivered within three to four weeks of your session.

Where We Shoot

Gulf Coast Locations

The Florida Panhandle is one of the most extraordinary backdrops in the country. We've worked every corner of it — sugar-white beaches at Opal and Fort Pickens, the architecture of Rosemary Beach, the cobblestone streets of downtown Pensacola.

Beach & Water

The Gulf

  • Opal Beach — wide, uncrowded, extraordinary light
  • Fort Pickens — dramatic pier, historic texture, sunset views
  • Henderson Beach State Park, Destin
  • Navarre Beach — quieter, equally stunning

Downtown & Village

Town Character

  • Downtown Pensacola — Palafox Street, Seville Quarter
  • Downtown Destin — harborfront and brick alley texture
  • Rosemary Beach — pastel architecture, European feel
  • Seaside & Watercolor — walkable and beautiful at dusk

Natural & Private

Landscapes

  • Cold Water Gardens — moss-covered live oaks, filtered light
  • Perdido Key State Park — untouched and serene
  • Blackwater River State Forest — cypress and mirror water
  • Private property with real character — we have connections

Destination Sessions

Wherever the
Story Takes You

The Gulf Coast is home base. We also travel — mountains, cities, vineyards, national parks, international. If a location is part of your story, we'll document it. Destination engagement sessions available worldwide.

Four-Legged Guests

Bring the Dog.
Seriously.

Pets are part of the family, and they deserve to be in these images. There's something that happens when a couple's dog is in the session — everyone relaxes, everyone laughs, and the whole thing becomes more genuinely you.

"The candid moments with a dog in the frame are almost always our favorites."

What to Wear

Dressing for the Session

Two outfits, one session. Start with your more formal look, and save your favorite for last — you'll be warmed up, more comfortable, and it shows in the images.

Getting Ready

The Perfect Time for
a Trial Run

If you're planning to have professional hair and makeup done for your wedding day, your engagement session is the ideal opportunity for a trial. You'll discover what works, what needs adjusting, and how everything holds up over time — invaluable intelligence to have before the wedding morning.

"There's a reason every bride who hired a stylist for her engagement session also hired one for her wedding."

Professional styling makes a genuine difference on the Gulf Coast, where humidity and sea breeze are facts of life. Your session lets you test everything in real conditions, without any of the pressure of the actual wedding day. Whatever you choose, arrive feeling like the best version of yourself.

The Details

Clean Your Ring

We always photograph the ring. It's one of the details that tells the story — and it looks a thousand times better when it sparkles. The good news is that cleaning it takes about thirty minutes the day before your session.

Warm water.
Soft brush.
Twenty minutes.

Soak in warm, soapy water for 20 to 40 minutes, then gently brush the setting and underside of the stone with a soft toothbrush. Rinse well, dry with a lint-free cloth. A clean stone catches light in a way that photographs beautifully even in close focus.

The Extras

Props: Only the Meaningful Ones

The best props are the ones that already exist in your story. If you met at a coffee shop, bring two cups. If champagne is part of how you celebrate, bring a bottle — it's always a good idea, and it always makes people laugh and relax.

What we'd encourage you to leave at home: props that look like engagement photos but don't look like you. The most beautiful images come from things that are genuinely, specifically yours. When in doubt, bring nothing.

On Camera

You Don't Need
to Know How to Pose

This is the thing most couples are most worried about, and it's the thing that matters least. You don't need to come in knowing where to put your hands or what your angles are. That's our job, and we're good at it.

"The candid moments in between the poses are always the best ones."

We guide you through the entire session — not with stiff direction, but with prompts and movement that feel natural and produce genuine expressions. We'll make you laugh. The rest takes care of itself.

Weather Policy

Rain Doesn't Ruin
Anything

We schedule every session with a primary date and a backup date. If conditions make for a poor experience, we'll reschedule — never at the last minute. You'll know at least 12 hours in advance.

That said — rain doesn't ruin anything. An overcast sky means soft, even light. A light rain means reflections on the pavement and a reason to be close to each other. Some of our most beautiful sessions have happened on days that didn't go as planned.

After the Session

Get Dressed Up.
Go to Dinner.

You've spent the evening looking beautiful, feeling close to each other, and being present in a way that everyday life rarely allows. Don't let the night end on the couch. You're already dressed. The light is still warm. Go celebrate — a nice dinner, a drink at your favorite spot, a walk through the neighborhood you love. The session is the beginning of the evening, not the end of it.

After the Session

Your Gallery

Your gallery will be thoughtfully edited and delivered within three to four weeks. You'll receive a private, password-protected online gallery with full-resolution images, personal print rights, and no expiration date.
