They reference real moments. The wedding-style platitudes (\"I'll always be there\") land flat at a renewal because the audience has watched you be there for years already.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Including Children<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The most beautiful vow renewals we shoot are the ones with kids. Specific ideas we've seen work:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Kids as the wedding party.<\/strong> Daughter as the maid of honor, son as the ring bearer. Even if they're teenagers.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Family vows.<\/strong> Each parent says vows to each other AND to the kids (\"I promise to keep being your mom while loving your dad\").<\/li>\n<li><strong>A family unity moment.<\/strong> Sand ceremony where each family member adds a layer. Hangs in the house afterward.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kid-led photos.<\/strong> The couple's portraits, then a family portrait, then individual photos of each parent with each kid. Becomes the family Christmas card.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Wear<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Vow renewal attire is more flexible than wedding attire. Some couples wear their original wedding outfits (sometimes still fits, sometimes a great photo). Others go for \"elevated date night\" \u2014 a flowing dress for her, linen suit or chinos and a shirt for him. Charter a boat for 2 hours, ceremony at sunset on the water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Permits and Logistics<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Same as a wedding ceremony \u2014 if you're on a public beach with 10+ people and chairs, you need a permit. Most vow renewals are smaller and less elaborate than weddings, so permits are easier to get. Insurance still recommended for any group of 15+.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Photography for a Vow Renewal<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coverage typically runs 2\u20134 hours instead of 8. We arrive an hour before the ceremony for couple's portraits and family portraits, shoot the ceremony, then 30 minutes of post-ceremony portraits and the walk to dinner. Total cost in this market: $1,800\u2013$3,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Couples who hire a videographer too end up watching the ceremony footage years later \u2014 vow renewal vows hit harder on video than wedding vows because the words are specific. Worth considering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Most Common Mistake<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treating it like a wedding redo. The couples who plan a vow renewal as a smaller version of their original wedding end up reproducing the same stress and disappointment.
