Mother-of-bride and best friend present.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 2:45:<\/strong> Bride portraits with mother and bridal party (getting-ready location).<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 2:15:<\/strong> Groom getting ready, groomsmen portraits, groom + parents.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:45:<\/strong> First look (optional \u2014 see Post #10).<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:30:<\/strong> Bride and groom portraits begin if first look chosen.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:15:<\/strong> Full bridal party portraits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 0:45:<\/strong> Guests arriving \/ pre-ceremony tucking everything away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:30 (ceremony start, sunset minus 90 min):<\/strong> Ceremony begins.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:05:<\/strong> Ceremony ends. Recessional, cocktail hour begins.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 1:00:<\/strong> Family formals (15\u201320 minutes, structured list).<\/li>\n<li><strong>S \u2212 0:40:<\/strong> Bride + groom golden hour portraits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sunset (S):<\/strong> Final sunset portraits.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S + 0:15:<\/strong> Reception begins (introductions, toasts, dinner).<\/li>\n<li><strong>S + 2:30:<\/strong> Dancing, cake, bouquet\/garter as planned.<\/li>\n<li><strong>S + 3:30:<\/strong> Photographer departs (8 hours of coverage from arrival).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a 7 p.m. May sunset, that means ceremony at 5:30, photographer arrival at 3:30, hair and makeup starting at 1:00 p.m. Write it down with your actual times and share with every vendor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How to Build a Realistic Family Formals List<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Family formals are the single most common cause of timeline overruns. Couples either don&#8217;t plan them in advance, or they plan a 60-person list that takes 45 minutes and eats the entire golden hour. Here&#8217;s how to do it right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cap the list at 12\u201315 formal combinations.<\/strong> Anything beyond that should happen organically at the reception.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Group efficiently.<\/strong> Pull all-her-family combinations together, then all-his-family combinations. Don&#8217;t ping-pong.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Assign a wrangler.<\/strong> Best person is a family member who knows everyone by name and can call people forward. A poorly run one takes 40. That extra 20 minutes always comes out of your portrait time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Buffers: Where to Put Them<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The mistake most couples make is buffering the wrong places. Where buffers actually help:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Between hair\/makeup and getting dressed.<\/strong> Hair and makeup always runs long. You lose all your post-ceremony portrait time. The pattern we see work most consistently:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Sunset + 15 min:<\/strong> Guests seated, intros, blessing\/welcome.<\/li>\n<li><strong>+ 20 min:<\/strong> Dinner served. Toasts during dinner, not after.<\/li>\n<li><strong>+ 65 min:<\/strong> First dance, parent dances back-to-back.<\/li>\n<li><strong>+ 80 min:<\/strong> Dance floor opens. Cake cutting 30 minutes in (not before \u2014 guests still settling).<\/li>\n<li><strong>+ 2:30 to 3:30:<\/strong> Bouquet\/garter (optional), special dances, sparkler exit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Front-load the photographable moments. The dance floor at hour three doesn&#8217;t need the photographer (and most photographer contracts end around there anyway).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What to Send Your Vendors<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two weeks before the wedding, send a single, master timeline document to all vendors.
